Luxury homes in Sarasota, Florida have often been featured in high profile magazines such as Robb Report Vacation Homes, Sotheby's Preview, the WSJ, and other high end publications.

Between 2005 and 2006 Sarasota received much national media attention for being one of the hottest real estate markets in the nation.

With the cooling off in the real estate market after the 2006 boom, it has become one of the best places to find a spectacular waterfront luxury home for sale at prices below the average than that in most markets.

There are a number of luxury homes in the area that sell in the $10 million to $20 million range - many of those can be found on Casey Key - which is not technically in Sarasota - but rather in Osprey (but still in Sarasota County). Most Sought After Neighborhoods for Luxury Homes

Some of the most desirable neighborhoods can be found in these areas:

Casey Key

As mentioned previously, Casey Key is one of the most sough after areas along Florida's Gulf coast. There is a limited number of ultra luxury homes on this island, some of which have been owned by celebrities such as Stephen King.

Lido Shores

There is no other area that has a higher concentration of billionaires in Sarasota (and possibly Florida) and extravagant homes than Lido Shores, which is the area right between Lido Key and Longboat Key.

Longboat Key

The island of Longboat Key is probably one of the most valuable stretches in Sarasota with a concentration of hundreds of multi-million dollar homes. Longboat Key is mostly filled with upscale luxury condominiums, but there is a small selection of fine homes as well.

Siesta Key

Siesta Key is home to Siesta Beach - the most popular beach in Sarasota - often honored for being the whitest beach in the world. The areas right around the beach are known for its many vacation rentals, but the East, North, and South areas have some of the finest homes in the area.

Golf Neighborhoods in South Sarasota

There are a few exceptional golf course neighborhoods / country clubs that offer luxury homes overlooking some of the best golf courses in the area. These include The Oaks and Prestancia.

2007 has seen an uptick in real estate investment compared to the year before and there are a number of great deals still left in the ultra high end home market, but that window of opportunity might be closing as the buyer market is seemingly beginning to turn back around.

At some levels the very high end of the real estate spectrum is immune to the fluctuation changes in the general real estate market, but in Sarasota, it's not as much separated as in say, Miami.
